A group of sixteen new entrants to the emergency services are preparing to haul a fire engine five kilometres along the Sussex coast in aid of a charitable cause.
The participants, who are completing their training with East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service as part of the 43rd cohort of full-time recruits, will traverse Hove Promenade to raise funds for The Fire Fighters Charity.
The fundraising activity is scheduled for October 20, 2026, with an eleven o’clock start from the Hove Lawns Park running route.
Station Manager for Operational Training Oliver Wilson spoke about the significance of the undertaking for those beginning their careers within the fire service.
Wilson noted that the recruits stand at the beginning of their firefighting journey and that the challenge exemplifies the commitment and civic engagement required of those joining the profession.
He added that by collecting donations for The Fire Fighters Charity, the recruits contribute to an organisation that delivers assistance to serving firefighters, support staff and their relatives during challenging circumstances, while also demonstrating the principles that form the foundation of the service.
The Fire Fighters Charity offers programmes designed to improve wellbeing for current and former firefighters, operational personnel and their dependants.
These services encompass physical recovery treatments, mental health assistance, convalescent care and a private helpline through which individuals can obtain neutral guidance, counselling and help across numerous personal matters.
Members of the local community have been encouraged to attend and show their backing for the recruits on the day of the event.
