Parents of Year 6 pupils in East Sussex are being reminded that the closing date for secondary school applications is drawing near.
Applications for secondary school placements commencing in September 2027 must be submitted by 11.59pm on October 31.
Councillor Paul Soane, who serves as the cabinet member responsible for education, inclusion, special educational needs and disability at East Sussex County Council, indicated that the previous year’s admission process saw 95 percent of applicants secure a place at one of their chosen establishments.
However, a number of children were unsuccessful because their families failed to meet the application deadline.
While attendance at preferred schools cannot be guaranteed, lodging an application promptly offers youngsters the most favourable opportunity.
Applicants may indicate up to three schools on their application form.
A geographical tool accessible through the East Sussex County Council website enables households to locate educational institutions operating within their local area.
A spokesperson for the council explained that when only a single establishment is selected and no vacancies exist, the applicant will be assigned to the nearest available school, though only after the preferences of all other applicants have been processed.
Additional guidance regarding the application procedure can be found on the East Sussex County Council website.
