A weight management initiative centred on football has enabled one individual to lose almost 34 kilograms.

Andrew Cockerton, who is 31 years old and based in Brighton, entered the MAN v FAT Brighton scheme at a weight of approximately 127 kilograms and now scales just over 93 kilograms after shedding nearly 30 kilograms.

Cockerton indicated that his initial approach lacked commitment to the weight loss aspect of the programme.

He noted that he simply continued his regular habits initially and treated the scheme as a social opportunity to play football while enjoying his participation.

The initiative receives funding from Brighton & Hove Council through Gloji Brighton & Hove.

It targets men whose BMI exceeds 27.5 and incorporates regular weight monitoring alongside 28-minute matches of reduced-pitch football.

Cockerton acknowledged the contribution of his coach, Jen, whom he regards as instrumental to his advancement.

According to Cockerton, Jen motivated him to begin attending a gym and provided suggestions for improved nutrition.

Cockerton observed that this weight reduction has profoundly transformed his existence, leaving him feeling considerably more physically capable and well, while expressing pride in his adherence to dietary requirements, gym sessions and the programme itself.

The Brighton sessions occur each Thursday evening at Withdean Sports Complex situated on Tongdean Lane.

Within the MAN v FAT league, both the amount of weight shed and goals scored factor into a team’s position, with supplementary goals granted based on combined weight reduction across the squad.

Cockerton highlighted that the fellowship and motivation provided by fellow participants proved essential throughout his process.

He stated that while describing his group members as exceptional may sound predictable, they had also drawn motivation from his own example to pursue weight reduction.

Cockerton confirmed he would unreservedly endorse MAN v FAT to any individual who appreciates football and seeks improved health, describing it as comprising excellent participants alongside supportive coaching staff.

MAN v FAT forms part of the broader range of services delivered through Gloji Brighton & Hove, which additionally encompasses digital assistance, family-oriented sessions and Slimming World provision.

More than 8,000 individuals participate across in excess of 160 MAN v FAT Football and Rugby establishments throughout the United Kingdom, with accumulated weight loss exceeding 450,000 kilograms.
