New Book Reveals Sussex Finishing School for Nazi Leaders’ Daughters

Published on

A new publication explores the history of an educational institution established on the Sussex seaboard during the interwar years.

The establishment catered specifically to young women from influential Nazi families and wealthy German noble houses.

Paul StJohn Mackintosh, a British historian and writer, authored the volume examining Augusta Victoria College in Bexhill.

Throughout the 1930s, the institution functioned as a training facility designed to cultivate young women from Germany’s highest-ranking National Socialist officials and aristocratic circles.

The facility sought to mould students into representatives of Hitler’s campaign to cultivate relationships with Britain’s upper classes, according to the author.

Among the enrolments were Bettina von Ribbentrop, whose father served as Hitler’s foreign minister, and Princess Herzeleide of Prussia, the grandson of Kaiser Wilhelm II.

The publication has drawn interest following recent disclosures regarding pro-Nazi inclinations among segments of the British aristocracy during the 1930s, and arrives in the wake of the cinematic production Six Minutes to Midnight.

Mackintosh maintains membership in the Historical Writers Association and completed postgraduate studies in history and art history at Cambridge University’s Trinity College.

His residence is in France, and he has produced extensive contributions to academic reference materials and mainstream historical literature.
