A property in Sussex has secured recognition among the finest accommodations worldwide.

Alexander House and Utopia Spa, situated in the vicinity of Turners Hill adjacent to Crawley, achieved placement on La Liste’s 2026 compilation of the leading one thousand hotels internationally, earning a score of 95.5 out of 100.

La Liste functions as a reputable global ranking system and restaurant guide that aggregates assessments from culinary publications and customer evaluations to determine the world’s premier hotels, dining establishments, and patisseries.

The 2026 ranking features 91 British hotels, underscoring the nation’s ongoing prominence in hospitality excellence.

The Jacobean manor house provides 120 acres of landscaped grounds and combines historical character with upscale amenities.

This five-star establishment in West Sussex markets itself as an ideal location for romantic escapes, spa retreats, major celebrations, or intimate family occasions.

The property originated in the 1600s and formerly served as the residence of celebrated poet Percy Bysshe Shelley and his wife, the renowned author Mary Shelley.

In 1984, the estate underwent comprehensive renovation and restoration before being rebranded as Alexander House Hotel.

The current facilities include 57 uniquely decorated guest rooms and suites, a two-bedroom private dwelling named The Gatehouse, and a spa complex equipped with outdoor warm pools and a cylindrical sauna.

The venue also houses Reflections, a brasserie-style dining establishment holding two AA rosettes, a Champagne lounge, and the South Drawing Room where conventional afternoon tea is available.

The property functions as a sought-after location for wedding ceremonies.

Sussex representation on La Liste’s list extended beyond this establishment, with Gravetye Manor in East Grinstead also receiving acknowledgment.

Gravetye Manor comprises a luxury country house hotel dating from the 1500s featuring a Michelin-starred restaurant, situated within one thousand acres of West Sussex rural landscape.

The property received a rating of 92 out of 100 from La Liste.

Guest assessments on Tripadvisor assign the property a score of 4.2 out of 5 derived from in excess of three thousand five hundred reviews.

Summary observations indicate that visitors praise the establishment for its refined and peaceful ambiance, attractively appointed accommodations, and a spa facility that many guests find memorable.

Personnel receive commendation for their welcoming approach and attentiveness, while the standard of cleanliness generally attracts favourable commentary.

Reviewers have described the spa as among the finest in the county.

One visitor noted that the grounds presented an attractive setting for walking and that accommodation in the contemporary wing proved comfortable and well-appointed, with ornate light fixtures throughout the period main building creating an elegant atmosphere.

Another visitor highlighted that personnel proved courteous and accommodating while the property and spa maintained exceptional standards of hygiene and amenity provision.
