The Haven in Brighton has recorded a significant improvement following its most recent regulatory assessment.
The facility, which falls under the management of Lifeways, received a ‘Good’ rating from the Care Quality Commission across all evaluated categories, representing a considerable advance from its previous ‘Requires Improvement’ classification issued in 2023.
The independent regulator evaluates care providers against five distinct domains: safety, effectiveness, compassion, responsiveness, and leadership.
Karen Jones, who serves as managing director for Lifeways’ Residential Care operations, expressed satisfaction with the outcome.
According to Jones, staff members have dedicated considerable effort to establishing an environment characterised by warmth and comfort, ensuring individuals feel secure, respected, and properly assisted while developing dependable connections with those in their care.
Jones noted that recognition of this person-focused approach by the CQC was gratifying.
The inspection conducted the previous year had resulted in a ‘Requires Improvement’ designation overall, with the same verdict recorded for effectiveness, responsiveness, and leadership.
At that time, safety and compassion had already met the ‘Good’ standard.
The latest review, undertaken between August 4th and August 13th, resulted in ‘Good’ ratings being awarded across every category examined.
Inspectors observed that personnel possessed extensive knowledge of residents, demonstrated clear understanding of individual choices and requirements, and demonstrated capacity to address even minor shifts in support needs.
Relatives of those living at the home reported notable positive changes, including enhanced food options and nutritional assistance, greater availability of recreational pursuits and social interaction, and an overall elevation in living standards for their family members.
Family members also valued the consistent communications distributed by the home, which feature updates and images of activities and daily experiences.
During the inspection, individuals residing at the service appeared calm and satisfied, interacting with staff through friendly expressions, embraces, and evident warmth.
