A coastal walkway has been shut because of safety worries.
Littlehampton’s West Beach Boardwalk has been closed by Arun District Council following considerable deterioration over recent weeks, leaving the structure dangerous for public use.
Council representatives noted that the boardwalk had deteriorated to such an extent that individual repair works could no longer guarantee the structure remained safe for visitors.
Work is currently underway to assess options for completely rebuilding the walkway.
It is expected that the boardwalk will stay closed until a permanent solution is found.
Seaside walkways are prone to decay and can suffer harm from seawater, storm activity, and heavy footfall.
The West Beach Boardwalk also faced closure previously in May last year to carry out essential maintenance following damage resulting from general wear and tear.
