Vintage bus festival coming back this summer with classic rides

Published on

The annual celebration of historic buses is returning to the area this summer season.

Eastbourne Classic Bus Running Day is scheduled for Sunday, July 5, at Eastbourne Railway Station, giving visitors the opportunity to experience vintage vehicles spanning from the 1930s through to the 1980s.

The complimentary services will follow routes previously served by the former Eastbourne Corporation and Southdown bus operators.

Approximately 20 buses will operate frequent journeys to destinations including Beachy Head, Birling Gap, East Dean, as well as coastal routes to Princes Park and the Sovereign Centre.

Trips will also wind through the Sussex countryside toward Bexhill, Hailsham, and Pevensey Bay, including a recreation of the 1970s Eastbourne “Town Tour”.

All vehicles will depart from the car park next to Eastbourne Station between 10am and 4.30pm.

The event, which has drawn crowds exceeding 2,500 attendees in past years, offers an excellent family outing.

Although the journeys are complimentary, visitors are invited to buy a souvenir programme for £10 when attending or £9 when reserved beforehand through steven.wood@clara.co.uk.

The programme, containing timetables and information about all routes, assists with covering the expenses of the event.

Additional details are available on the Eastbourne Classic Bus website or Facebook page.

The organizers stated: “The event provides a great family day out with recent years seeing over 2500 people enjoying the rides.

“While all rides are free we do encourage purchase a souvenir programme as this helps to cover some of the costs of staging the event.
