A man is facing charges after hurling objects from a building’s rooftop for over 17 consecutive hours.
Officers responded to reports of an incident at a property on Sedlescombe Road in St Leonards on Wednesday, April 29.
The road remained shut to traffic from 1.20pm, with officers establishing barriers where London Road and Duke Street intersect with the affected area.
Following an extended period, the individual came down from the rooftop unharmed and was taken into custody at the location.
The thoroughfare was restored and police departed the area at approximately 5.15am the following morning, April 30.
Dylan Battams, aged 30 and from St Leonards, appeared before Brighton Magistrates’ Court on May 1. He faces multiple charges comprising attempted assault occasioning grievous bodily harm, affray, causing a public nuisance, assaulting an emergency worker, and six counts of criminal damage.
The defendant was held in custody and is scheduled to return to court on June 1.
Chief Inspector Sarah Taylor stated that the incident caused significant inconvenience to residents and traders throughout the operation. She explained that ensuring public safety remained the primary concern, and the road restrictions and safety perimeter allowed officers to resolve the situation without harm to the public or the individual involved. She expressed appreciation for the patience and cooperation shown by the local community.
