A new water refill station has been installed to help promote sustainability and cut plastic waste.

Officially unveiled in Hailsham on Friday, April 17, the station was delivered by Sussex Independent Financial Advisers (SIFA) in partnership with Plastic Free Eastbourne and was opened by Nusrat Ghani, MP for Sussex Weald, alongside Hailsham Town Mayor Cllr Chris Bryant.

Located on the footpath between St Mary’s Walk car park and George Street, the refill point is designed to encourage greater use of reusable bottles by offering free access to safe drinking water.

Nusrat Ghani MP said: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank Sussex Independent Financial Advisers and Plastic Free Eastbourne for completing and maintaining this fantastic project for Hailsham communities and visitors to the town.

“The new water refill station, located conveniently at the centre of town and made out of plastic from recovered fishing nets from Cornwall, will provide additional access to fresh, free drinking water and help reduce the use of single use plastic bottles.

“With warmer days of summer ahead of us, I hope that Hailsham residents will appreciate this new addition to the town’s facilities and once again a huge thank you to everyone who has made the delivery of the water station possible.”

This is the latest in a series of sustainability projects from SIFA, who previously delivered a similar project in Eastbourne.

Ms Ghani joined Hailsham Town Mayor Councillor Chris Bryant, SIFA’s team and representatives from Plastic Free Eastbourne for the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
