A person has died after being hit by a train.
Rail services between Brighton and Worthing were brought to a halt today (April 29) after a person was hit by a train.
There was a large emergency services presence at a level crossing in Shoreham, next to the McDonald’s.
Southern Rail alerted travellers to the incident just after 4.30 pm, posting on X: “It is with great sadness to report that a person has been hit by a train between Hove and Worthing.”
All services between Brighton and Worthing were suspended, with many services between London and West Sussex also cancelled.

British Transport Police confirmed that the person had died after being hit by the train in Shoreham.
They said the incident is not being treated as suspicious.
A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: “We were called to an area of the line in Shoreham-by-Sea at around 4.30 pm today (April 29) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
“Officers attended along with paramedics but sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
