A Sussex author’s new novel blending earthly heartbreak and the afterlife has arrived on bookshelves.
Apart by Jude Jacobs follows the story of Amy, who is left devastated after the sudden death of her boyfriend, James.
In her grief, she turns to mediumship in the hope of reconnecting with him beyond the grave.
The book takes a unique turn by exploring James’s perspective from the afterlife, where a malfunctioning “celestial pain filter” leaves him distressed and longing for Amy.
Despite seeking help from God to reach out to her, he finds himself thwarted by a clumsy heavenly messaging system and an elderly psychic.

Ms Jacobs, who lives in a Sussex village, said: “Writing Apart has been a cathartic process.
“It allowed me to create a world where I could bring to life my hope that there is more, and that our loved ones are safe and at peace.
“The story is fiction, but the grief is real.”
Desperate to help Amy heal, James considers drastic measures to give her the peace she needs—raising the question of whether divine intervention could ultimately do more harm than good.
Apart is available now from bookshops and online retailers.
