Brighton show uses corporate humor to explore sex work

Published on

A theatrical production examining sex work through the lens of corporate employment is set to arrive in the city.

Pleasure Incorporated, a solo performance situated within a fictional business environment, is scheduled for presentation at Komedia Studio in Brighton on May 27 at 8pm.

The piece, created and performed by Jemima Foxtrot, employs business parody to investigate how bodies, labor and authority are governed, controlled and commercialized.

Tickets can be purchased through jemimafoxtrot.com/live-shows.

Drawing upon her background working as an escort in Berlin, Foxtrot combines live staging with video elements and a custom musical score, moving between comedy and emotional intimacy.

The production, initially crafted in Berlin throughout 2023/24, encourages viewers to consider what society defines as conventional employment, analyzing how economic systems, gender dynamics and necessity influence individual freedom.

Despite its serious subject matter, audience members have characterized the work as surprisingly humorous, disarming and relatable.

The workplace backdrop creates opportunities for contemplation and moments of acute recognition.

Pleasure Incorporated forms part of the Brighton Fringe festival program and carries a minimum age recommendation of 16.

Advisory content addresses references to sexual services and the sexual exploitation of minors.
