A coffee shop is set to launch at one of Sussex’s most historic pubs.
The proprietors of The George and Dragon in Houghton, close to Arundel, have revealed plans to introduce a coffee shop at the establishment starting April 15.
The café will offer beverages and pastries, operating from 9am to 2pm each weekday except Sundays.
The George and Dragon ranks among Sussex’s ancient pubs, with origins stretching back 750 years to 1276.
The venue carries extensive heritage and, per local tradition, welcomed King Charles II, who supposedly paused for refreshment while escaping following his defeat at the Battle of Worcester in 1651.
Last year, the pub was recognized as featuring among the United Kingdom’s top 30 outdoor drinking areas.
