One of the UK’s biggest free car shows will take place in May.

The Magnificent Motors festival returns to Eastbourne for the first May Bank Holiday weekend.

Around 600 vehicles are expected on the Western Lawns and Wish Tower Slopes each day.

The two-day event, running from Saturday, May 2 to Sunday, May 3, spans modern supercars to vintage tourers.

Eastbourne Borough Council’s lead member for tourism and place, Councillor Jenny Williams, said: “Magnificent Motors promises yet another sparkling weekend of classic and vintage vehicles, with some fascinating motoring stories to discover and some great performances from local musicians.

“Whether you’re a motoring enthusiast, a lover of all things vintage, or simply looking for some live entertainment and family fun, Magnificent Motors is the perfect excuse for a day out or a short break at the seaside this May Bank Holiday weekend.”

New for this year is an arena showcase where visitors can hear the stories behind the polished chrome.

Backed by Seahaven FM and The Hive Sound Events, the arena will host live interviews with classic car owners.

Fans can hear about tough restorations, famous former owners and cars seen in hit films and TV shows.

The display features a gleaming array of American muscle cars alongside well known brands like Jaguar, Porsche and Lotus.

Rare models such as Panthers and Corvettes will sit alongside Italian roadsters and retro motors.

Also new this year is a live music stage for visitors. Acts include a Billy Joel tribute by Matt Armstrong and a show from the Abba Girls.

Jackie & the Fabulous Jackettes bring rock ’n’ roll, while Hunky Dory frontman Steve Dunnett performs pop classics.

There will also be a nod to the future, with the latest electric vehicle technology on show. Local dealers will show off the newest models for anyone looking to switch from petrol.

Families can also enjoy a funfair, shopping stalls and plenty of food outlets.

A bar will be open throughout the bank holiday weekend.

The show is backed by local partners including PRG Marketing Communications, Signtek and Seahaven FM.

It runs from 10.30am to 4.30pm on Saturday and Sunday. Entry is free and no tickets or booking are needed.

Organisers expect thousands to head to the seafront to see the cars up close.
