A 34-year-old woman has been fined and had three penalty points added to her driving licence after being caught speeding on the A259.
Jennifer Griffiths, of Abbey Road, Popley, Basingstoke, appeared before Crawley Magistrates’ Court on March 13, 2026, where she pleaded guilty to a charge of speeding.
The case arose from an incident recorded in the evening of April 17, 2025, when Griffiths was caught driving a Nissan at 37mph in the 30mph restricted zone on the A259 Main Road in Southbourne at 8.54pm.

The speed was recorded by a GATSO automatic camera device, one of a number of fixed cameras on the A259.
Southbourne is a coastal village in the south-western corner of West Sussex, close to the Hampshire border, sitting on the A259 — the main road running along the coast between Chichester and Emsworth.
The 30mph limit applies through the built-up section of the village on that part of the A259.
Griffiths was ordered to pay a total of £201, made up of a £58 fine, a £23 surcharge to fund victim services, and £120 in court costs, with a collection order made to ensure payment.

Three penalty points were endorsed on the driving licence, and the DVLA was formally notified. The magistrates took Griffiths’ guilty plea into account when imposing sentence. No disqualification was imposed.
The case was heard by West Sussex Magistrates’ Court (Local Justice Area 2951) sitting at Crawley Magistrates’ Court, County Buildings, Woodfield Road, in Crawley.
The prosecuting authority was Sussex Police.
