A fatality occurred after an individual was struck by a railway service at Southwick Station.

The collision prompted the suspension of all rail operations between Brighton and Worthing in both directions.

Officers from British Transport Police attended the location following emergency calls.

Paramedics also responded but the individual was confirmed deceased at the site.

According to a transport police representative, authorities received notification at 2.15pm on September 17 regarding reports of a person on the tracks near Southwick Station.

Emergency personnel arrived and the individual was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident has not been classified as suspicious.

A spokesperson for Southern Rail reported that the incident occurred on the route between Brighton and Worthing.

Train services were halted through the affected section with no services able to operate until further notice.

The operator expressed regret for the disruption caused to passengers.

Southern Rail initially projected that services would resume by 5pm, though this estimate was subsequently revised to 6pm.

Temporary bus services were arranged to serve the closed route between Brighton and Worthing.

Rail services on both lines have now resumed normal operation.
