Organisations throughout England have another opportunity to secure financial support for initiatives designed to foster social cohesion at a grassroots level.
The latest phase of the Common Ground Award scheme has opened for submissions, with a total funding pool of up to £2.5 million available to eligible bodies.
Successful projects will demonstrate how they intend to build confidence between residents from varying backgrounds, address unconscious bias, and increase mutual comprehension across different demographic groups.
Priority will be given to proposals that enhance infrastructure, modernise resources, or establish environments where meaningful dialogue can occur.
Applications may be submitted through the official government portal.
Individual organisations stand to receive between £20,000 and £50,000, while collaborative partnerships formed by multiple bodies operating together may request as much as £250,000.
Speaking about the programme, the minister responsible for community affairs expressed enthusiasm for the scheme’s continued expansion.
The official noted that previous rounds had supported a diverse range of activities including neighbourhood café ventures, amateur sports facilities, and temporary community hubs that encourage residents to interact with unfamiliar neighbours and develop fresh networks.
The initiative remains accessible to charitable, voluntary and social enterprise entities conducting operations within England for non-profit objectives.
During the initial distribution phase, numerous recipients based in Sussex were allocated funds.
These included the Brighton and Hove Food Partnership, which received £8,168, alongside the Brighton Permaculture Trust and Brighton Women’s Centre, each securing £10,000.
Additional beneficiaries comprised Figment Arts CIC in Worthing at £7,800, Impact Initiatives in Brighton at £9,963, and Gaydio Community Interest Company, also Brighton-based, at £9,853.
A representative from Oldham Boxing and Personal Development Centre, which previously benefited from the scheme, described how the award had enabled the organisation to connect with a broader cross-section of the local population.
The individual explained that barriers preventing participation in athletics and wellness activities had been systematically addressed, ensuring such opportunities remain genuinely available to all residents regardless of circumstance.
Prospective applicants should note that the window for submissions commences mid-September 2026 and concludes six weeks later.
Evaluation processes are scheduled to conclude before the end of that calendar year, with disbursements anticipated early in the new year.
