A UK-based retreat company is expanding its portfolio with the introduction of two off-grid woodland cabins in East Sussex.
The Hawthorn and Blackthorn retreats were officially announced on September 10 and represent the latest addition to the company’s growing collection of countryside accommodations.
The newly unveiled cabins feature comfortable furnishings and include private outdoor firepits for guest use.
Nestled in the village of Laughton, the properties provide visitors with secluded accommodation away from the pressures of everyday life while maintaining proximity to notable regional attractions.
The surrounding area includes the historic market town of Lewes, the iconic white chalk formations of the Seven Sisters coastline, and several well-regarded vineyards in the region.
The seaside city of Brighton, known for its narrow winding streets, cultural venues, and distinctive seafront promenade, lies within a short travelling distance for guests seeking additional entertainment options.
Both properties welcome canine companions and are designed to accommodate a maximum of two guests.
The retreats align with the company’s broader growth strategy, which aims to increase its total inventory from 19 to 61 cabins within approximately fourteen months.
Ten additional properties are scheduled for completion within the next quarter, with a further 36 sites targeted for development in the subsequent year.
Harry Tomkinson, the company’s founder, explained that deliberate pacing shapes their expansion model.
According to him, accepting every available land opportunity or delegating site selection would enable faster growth, but such an approach contradicts their operational philosophy.
Each location undergoes personal assessment by team members who visit, explore and determine its suitability before any construction commences.
Every structure is constructed by the company’s own workforce rather than purchased as prefabricated units.
While this methodology requires more time, it ensures each cabin integrates naturally with its surroundings rather than appearing disconnected from the landscape.
Rising consumer interest in this style of getaway has created opportunities to scale operations while preserving their established building principles.
Increasing the property count from 19 to 61 represents substantial growth, yet maintains the original philosophy across a larger operation.
Each structure is conceived and assembled internally with environmental considerations as a priority, intended to complement rather than dominate the natural environment.
Site selection involves thorough reconnaissance by company representatives, with emphasis placed on seclusion, scenic vistas and creating genuine separation from urban routines.
The development programme will generate employment positions and provide economic support to nearby enterprises as operations extend across more than twenty additional counties.
Current properties operate in North Wales, Cheshire, Staffordshire and Sussex, with future establishments planned for Shropshire, the Scottish Borders, Surrey, Wiltshire and the Lake District.
During 2026, the company has recorded 3,334 individual guest stays across its locations, demonstrating increasing consumer appetite for nature-focused, unhurried travel experiences.
