A walking initiative aimed at supporting individuals affected by diabetes has been taken up by employees at a Haywards Heath optical retailer.
The One Million Steps Challenge, scheduled to run throughout the summer and into early autumn, tasks participants with covering distances equivalent to between 500,000 and 1.7 million steps.
The campaign, organised by Diabetes UK, seeks to generate both financial support and increased understanding of a condition that affects millions of people across the country.
Specsavers Haywards Heath directors Jay Spiller and Rachna Patel are encouraging their colleagues to participate in the fundraising effort.
According to those involved, the initiative offers an opportunity to contribute to a meaningful cause while promoting better public understanding of how the condition affects daily life.
The pair indicated that the team looks forward to supporting the charity through their collective efforts.
Mr Spiller also drew attention to the relationship between diabetes and vision, noting that regular examinations of the eyes play a significant role in managing the condition.
Changes affecting the retina that are associated with diabetic eye complications can sometimes be identified during standard eye tests, occasionally even before any symptoms become apparent to the patient.
Early detection through such screenings is considered valuable in addressing potential complications.
Approximately 4.7 million individuals in the United Kingdom have received a diabetes diagnosis.
The medical condition, which results in elevated glucose concentrations in the bloodstream, requires ongoing management and carries serious health implications if left unaddressed.
