Bexhill-on-Sea has been recognised as one of England’s most desirable locations for retirees, according to an assessment published by World Atlas.

The Sussex coastal settlement received the designation for its strong sense of community, lifestyle standards, and range of activities available to senior citizens.

Bexhill was one of seven towns throughout England to achieve this distinction.

Property values in the area remain comparatively reasonable despite increasing interest from prospective residents.

According to the UK House Price Index published on 16 September 2026, covering July 2026, the average residential property in the South East commands ÂŁ381,000.

Rightmove data indicates Bexhill’s mean house price stands at ÂŁ343,413.

Detached residences achieved an average sale price of ÂŁ489,710, while apartments sold for approximately ÂŁ191,574 and semi-detached properties reached ÂŁ323,854.

Recent market analysis shows Bexhill’s housing costs have fallen one percent year-on-year, sitting two percent below the 2022 high of ÂŁ352,111.

Property valuations fluctuate based on precise location, dimensions, and overall condition.

World Atlas cited Bexhill’s performance regarding pensioner quality of life.

Census data from 2021 reveals that 34.7 percent of the local population falls within the 65-and-over demographic.

The publication noted that life in Bexhill offers a diverse selection of clubs, classes, and programmes for retired residents.

The town’s waterfront was identified as among the most appealing along England’s southern coastline.

The beachfront, characterised by its two-mile promenade and traditional English beach huts, further enhances the town’s desirability.

Recreational options include the level, two-mile surfaced promenade providing an uncomplicated walking route with numerous benches and vistas across the sea.

Egerton Park features well-maintained pathways, a conventional boating lake, established trees, and a peaceful café.

The De La Warr Pavilion presents rotating contemporary art displays, live performances, and a café overlooking panoramic coastal scenery.

Bexhill Museum houses collections encompassing 17th-century attire, motor-racing history, and Suzy Izzard’s model railway exhibit.

The Bexhill Senior Citizens Club provides activities, technology training, and social gatherings for individuals aged 55 and above.

Visitors between March and November on Wednesdays or weekends may observe members of the Bexhill Sailing Club participating in races.
