A community funding initiative has awarded grants to five distinct areas across Brighton and Hove.

The Better Brighton and Hove Fund distributes resources derived from development charges paid to Brighton and Hove City Council.

Local elected representatives selected the successful schemes following public consultation.

These allocations represent the initial distribution from the programme, which guarantees each electoral division a minimum of £22,000.

Areas experiencing greater construction activity receive elevated contributions.

Rottingdean and West Saltdean obtained the highest individual allocation from the inaugural disbursement, bringing the combined total for all five divisions to approximately £230,000.

One division received a sum exceeding £87,000, with £29,000 designated for the Saltdean Residents and Community Association to address seafront railings in a turquoise finish and supplementary public assets.

Additional funding includes £10,000 for a pair of illuminated traffic warning signs and £7,000 for seating at Saltdean Vale and Coombe Vale transport hub.

Within Hove, the Wish division secured £76,000.

A portion of £24,000 will facilitate the clearance of two tree stumps and the establishment of four replacement specimens.

The Friends of Hove Lagoon organization obtained £22,000 toward constructing an external fitness area.

Aldrington Recreation Ground, commonly referred to as Wish Park, was granted £15,000 to provide secure equipment storage for local football activities.

The remaining funds will finance twenty established trees already situated within Wish Park, alongside a compact enclosed play zone for young children at Davis Park.

Round Hill division received £22,000, prioritising arboreal schemes along Lewes Road, Richmond Road and Beaconsfield Road.

An identical sum was allocated to Westbourne and Poets Corner, where £15,000 will acquire between two and three outdoor fitness units and £5,000 will address tree replacement and stump removal on Lawrence Road.

Woodingdean division will direct £11,000 toward visual enhancements for the Cowley Drive commercial precinct, supporting its function as a neighbourhood gathering point and potentially subsidising a catering establishment within an unoccupied retail space.

A further £10,000 will revamp the planted border adjacent to the shopping arcade at Warren Way, with £1,000 assigned for a commemorative marker detailing the historical significance of the Woodingdean Well, recognised as the deepest manually excavated well globally.

The council’s complete programme budget amounts to £750,000, with additional schemes due for announcement.
