A touring memorial commemorating individuals who died by suicide is making a stop in Brighton as part of an extensive UK remembrance initiative.
The Speak Their Name Memorial Quilt Tour will be shown at Brighton Racecourse on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th September.
The exhibition forms part of a six-week tour across Britain and arrives in the city just prior to World Suicide Prevention Day.
Ashley Redsell, who leads Speak Their Name, explained that the organisation hoped local residents would attend and engage with the memorial display.
Each textile panel within the collection represents an individual who was deeply cherished and continues to be missed.
Presenting the quilts in Brighton offered the community an opportunity to honour departed loved ones while simultaneously fostering discussions that might prompt someone to seek assistance when needed.
Every textile panel featured in the exhibition has been crafted by relatives and acquaintances to commemorate someone who died by suicide.
The panels combine to create both a unified commemoration and an appeal to combat stigma while promoting candid dialogue about mental health.
Attendees will have the chance to read personal accounts accompanying each panel, contemplate the lives being honoured, and obtain details regarding available support resources.
The memorial tour is scheduled to finish in London on World Suicide Prevention Day, which falls on Thursday 10th September.
Entry to the exhibition requires purchased tickets, with charges beginning at £8.50, and the quilts will not be accessible without a ticket.
