Part of the Saltdean undercliff route will be inaccessible to the public for a period of four weeks.
The path closure commences on September 7, beginning at the boundary with Brighton and Hove City Council.
Lewes District Council has explained that the restriction is necessary to facilitate vital coastal defence improvements and the installation of a new kerbed planting bed positioned beneath the cliff.
The planned raised planter will incorporate vegetated shingle species to enhance biodiversity in the area.
Additionally, the structure will offer a measure of safety by maintaining separation between pedestrians and the cliff face, thereby reducing the risk posed by dislodged chalk and loose stone.
Members of the public have been notified of the closure through signage installed along the affected route.
Separately, the council is inviting resident feedback regarding a separate proposal for an outdoor calisthenics facility at the East Saltdean undercliff area.
The initiative aims to establish a recreational space suitable for users across all age groups, with apparatus including pull-up bars, parallel bars and gymnastic rings.
The consultation survey remains open until September 14 and can be accessed via the council’s official website.
