In July 2026 the Police.uk local search area around Brighton’s city‑centre point recorded 1,866 reported incidents. Violent crime, with 511 incidents, and anti‑social behaviour, with 455 incidents, together accounted for more than half of the total, while shoplifting contributed 295 incidents and public‑order incidents 174. Other notable categories included other‑theft (102), criminal damage and arson (70), vehicle crime (46), robbery (34) and theft from the person (39).
The geographic breakdown showed that the highest numbers of incidents were reported near the Nightclub (147) and the Supermarket (166), reflecting the concentration of activity in nightlife and retail zones. North Street (72), the Hospital (50) and the Parking Area (40) also featured prominently, while smaller clusters appeared around Regent Hill, Queen Square and the Shopping Area.
It is important to note that these figures cover the Police.uk local search radius around the configured city‑centre point, not the whole Brighton city or local‑authority area, and they represent reported crimes only, which are subject to a two‑ to three‑month reporting lag. Brighton Chronicle will continue to monitor local crime patterns as further data become available.
