Six Sussex towns ranked in top 20 coastal locations for best places to live

Published on

Six coastal towns in Sussex have been identified among the leading destinations for seaside living across England and Wales.

The assessment evaluated 108 coastal settlements, measuring them against criteria including median property values, current housing supply, peak summer temperatures, and indicators of community happiness and life satisfaction.

East Sussex contributed three towns to the list of twenty highest-rated locations: Eastbourne, Hastings, and Bexhill.

The remaining three Sussex entries came from the western part of the county, comprising Bognor Regis, Littlehampton, and Worthing.

These six towns achieved positions ranging from fourth to sixteenth across all locations surveyed.

Ramsgate in Kent occupied the leading position, performing strongly on affordability, maximum summer temperatures, and aggregate happiness scores reported by residents.

Margate, also in Kent, placed second despite considerably higher average property values, with prices exceeding those in Ramsgate by more than twelve thousand pounds.

The South East and East of England regions accounted for the majority of places in the upper echelons of the ranking, with only Weston-super-Mare from the South West representing an exception to this geographical concentration.

For certain purchasers, cost considerations take precedence, while for others, the attraction lies in warmer climatic conditions or areas where residents report elevated levels of happiness and satisfaction with their lives.

Given substantial differences in property values and availability among coastal towns, thorough investigation and clarity regarding priorities would prove advantageous when considering such a move.

The most economical option does not automatically represent optimal value, and investing a premium for an appropriate location may prove worthwhile whether intended as a primary residence or secondary property.

The conveyancing professional further observed that identifying an appropriate location and property must be accompanied by proper attention to the practical elements of relocation.

Moving to a different region involves considerable financial and lifestyle implications, and obtaining suitable legal support can facilitate the process considerably.

Whether seeking an affordable first home by the coast or a second property offering the benefits of maritime air, careful planning and comprehension of the purchasing procedure can help ensure a successful transition to seaside living.

Property market intelligence indicates that several coastal communities are currently experiencing property value growth exceeding that of the broader United Kingdom market.

The attraction of coastal residency continues to strengthen, particularly given recent extreme summer conditions that have prompted greater interest among potential movers seeking warmer weather and the distinctive lifestyle associated with seaside locations.

Ramsgate, which claimed the leading position, houses the only Royal Harbour in the United Kingdom and maintains Blue Flag certification at its principal beach.

Margate receives approximately 4.6 million visitors each year, drawn in part to its Harbour Arm area featuring small bars and cafés with views across the English Channel.

Despite comparable ratings for climate and measures of happiness and life satisfaction, property values in Margate remain substantially higher than those in Ramsgate.

The investigation underscores the lasting attraction of coastal living and the diversity of options available to those seeking a new existence by the sea in England and Wales.
