A court in Sussex has overseen a series of significant sentencing cases during September, with multiple individuals receiving substantial jail terms for offences including sexual assaults, drug trafficking, dangerous driving and weapons possession.
A 61-year-old man from Osprey Close in Wanstead received a 20-year custodial sentence after being convicted of multiple rapes and kidnaps targeting a young woman.
The offences occurred in Brighton city centre during the early hours of July 3, 2022.
The defendant was operating a silver Mercedes vehicle and posed as a taxi driver to pick up a vulnerable 19-year-old female.
She was coerced into consuming a white powder substance before being subjected to repeated sexual assaults, including an attack involving a knife.
The victim managed to flee around 9.30am.
Following investigation by Sussex Police, the man faced charges of three rapes, kidnapping and sexual assault by penetration.
A separate incident in London was investigated by the Metropolitan Police in January 2024, resulting in additional charges of kidnapping, kidnapping with intent to commit a sexual offence and sexual assault.
Sentencing took place at Inner London Crown Court on September 7, with a further three years and six months added to the licence period.

He subsequently informed another member of staff that the bag contained a type of plastic explosive.
