A coastal settlement in West Sussex has been identified by readers as among the most desirable locations for residence in England.

Residents of the county submitted nominations for communities worthy of inclusion on a national list of exemplary places to live.

Rustington, situated within the Arun District of West Sussex, received multiple endorsements from respondents.

The village occupies a central position along the county’s coastline, positioned between the cities of Chichester and Brighton.

Local sources have described the area as distinctive, noting the presence of a well-regarded commercial centre featuring both independent traders and national retail chains.

The community has been characterised as suitable for visitors, residents, and business operators alike.

Additional attributes include a strong neighbourhood atmosphere, numerous voluntary associations and social groups catering to various age groups, an energetic youth club, and a flourishing University of the Third Age chapter.

A regional property firm identified additional appealing characteristics, emphasising the combination of peaceful residential streets, an intimate community environment, and direct proximity to the shoreline.

The firm noted that the area successfully balances coastal appeal with practical amenities and an inclusive character, attracting individuals seeking a more relaxed lifestyle while retaining access to seaside advantages.

Housing data from a property portal indicated that residential properties in Rustington commanded an overall average price of £425,303 during the most recent twelve-month period.

Detached properties represented the highest-value category at an average of £648,911.

Apartment-style homes sold for approximately £247,110, while terraced houses achieved around £331,402.

Transaction values increased by two percent compared with the preceding year, though remaining one percent below the peak recorded in 2023 of £431,443.

Recreational offerings in the village include access to the Greensward, where visitors can traverse grass verges, a seafront walkway, and a pebble beach that exposes expansive sandy areas during low tide.

Mewsbrooke Park provides additional leisure facilities and operates throughout the year, though its café, boat hire, and miniature railway operate on a seasonal basis.

The park accommodates mini-golf, a small-gauge railway, and pedalos.

The village centre contains independent dining establishments, public houses, and well-known high-street retailers.

The nearby towns of Littlehampton and Worthing provide additional entertainment, retail, and leisure opportunities within easy reach.

The combination of its coastal position and comprehensive local services has contributed to the village receiving recognition from county residents as one of Sussex’s most attractive locations for habitation.
