A campaigner opposed to immigration has been charged with assault after a protest in Brighton.
Ryan Bridge, 44, who established the Raise the Colours group, was taken into custody at the Carnival Against Fascism event in June.
Mr Bridge, from Blackwell in Worcestershire, faces a common assault charge and was detained in Queen’s Road, Brighton, on Saturday, June 13.
He is due to appear before magistrates in Brighton the following month.
On June 13, the anti-immigration organisation South East Patriots had arranged a procession through Brighton’s central area under a Stop the Boats initiative.
An opposing demonstration called the Carnival Against Fascism was staged in response.
Sussex Police counted approximately 300 participants in the Stop the Boats procession, while around 4,000 individuals took part in the Carnival Against Fascism.
Both groups started assembling near Brighton’s railway station at roughly 10.30am, with South East Patriots members gathering near The Railway Bell pub while protesters opposing them stood on the opposite side, separated by police cordons.
Throughout the day, the demonstrations traversed the town with the Carnival Against Fascism attempting to disrupt the far-right by obstructing their planned route.
