A Brighton-based music college has launched its annual welcome programme for newcomers with a caffeine-powered morning event.
WaterBear College of Music is staging a 9am coffee rave at its waterfront location during Freshers Week.
The gathering includes complimentary coffee and a live DJ performance from Boogaloo Dee, intended to help students begin their day energetically.
The caffeine-focused event forms part of a five-day schedule of concerts and social activities designed to introduce new arrivals to Brighton’s flourishing music ecosystem.
Jodie Amos, who leads music industries at WaterBear, stated that the institution aims to provide emerging artists with stage opportunities immediately.
Performing before crowds, appearing alongside other musicians and building professional relationships were identified as essential components of artistic growth.
The Freshers Week initiative enables students to establish early connections and integrate into the local live music community.
The lineup showcases performances from recognised artists, including singer-songwriter Caity Baser, scheduled to appear at Concorde 2 on Wednesday with support from Crimson and Lizzie Hill.
Earlier in the programme, Mae Hill performed at the WaterBear Venue with backing from student performers !ssy, real name Issy Draycott, and Scarlett Leigh.
Thursday evening will feature a presentation by 48Volts, a promotion collective based in Sheffield operated by WaterBear students Kian Welsh and Dom Collison.
The showcase includes Beanie, Waymore, MoreofThem and Letter4You.
The week concludes on Friday with a Collage and Connection workshop accompanied by a silent disco at the WaterBear MusicBar.
A Brighton-based treasure hunt activity resulted in one participant encountering actor Tom Hardy and securing a photograph as part of a challenge requiring the capture of the most memorable image.
WaterBear’s Freshers Week programming extends across three Brighton venues, pairing aspiring talent with more experienced performers.
The initiative aligns with the college’s broader mission to nurture emerging artists through various scholarship schemes and professional development resources.
Students from throughout Brighton may attend select events, with paid admission offered at the door for the 48Volts performance.
The Queer Collective evening also accommodates non-WaterBear students pending venue capacity.
