A dog was taken into custody by officers following an aggressive confrontation in Brighton’s city centre on September 25.
Emergency services responded to reports of an assault on a woman near the Royal Pavilion, where a man was allegedly observed with an animal exhibiting threatening behaviour.
A 28-year-old grounds maintenance worker was present in Old Steine Gardens at the time of the incident.
The witness reported observing the individual and his pet close to the Regency-era structure.
According to the landscape gardener, the animal was producing persistent barking sounds and demonstrated no indication of being restrained by its handler.
The disturbance continued for approximately thirty minutes prior to the arrival of law enforcement personnel.
The witness stated that officers arrived and attempted to manage the circumstances.
Members of the general public observed from the vicinity as authorities worked to restrain the animal.
Following the altercation, the man departed the location alongside the canine.
The grounds worker, a resident of Hove, indicated that the individual appeared to be known within the St James’s Street neighbourhood.
Sussex Constabulary confirmed that emergency calls were received at 12:30pm on September 25 reporting that a male had attacked a female in the Old Steine area and was failing to maintain command of his animal.
Officers attended the location and secured the dog.
A 45-year-old male with no fixed residence was taken into custody on suspicion of public order offences, actual bodily harm, and being responsible for a dog dangerously out of control.
