A man from Sussex featured among twelve individuals detained during a demonstration concerning migrants arriving by sea.

The gathering unfolded in Gosport, located in Hampshire, on the evening of Sunday October 4, in connection with a small vessel crossing.

Authorities apprehended a thirty-six-year-old resident of Bognor Regis on allegations of committing an assault against an officer of the law, disregarding a direction related to a prohibited gathering, and violating conditions attached to a dispersal order.

He was granted conditional release while investigations continue.

Roughly three hundred and fifty individuals assembled at the protest location on Haslar Road, after officials from coastguard, RNLI, and border force agencies brought migrants onto dry land.

The gathering broke up at approximately two in the morning on Monday October 5.

A thirty-eight-year-old individual subsequently faced charges for breaching protest restrictions that had been implemented.

Jamie Bennett, residing at Thyme Avenue in Whiteley, found himself charged with non-compliance regarding a prohibited assembly direction, and was granted bail with a scheduled appearance at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court on Thursday November 26.

Hampshire authorities exercised powers under the Public Order Act along with provisions banning face coverings during the demonstration.

Additional detentions involved allegations of assaulting police officers, behaving in a drunken and disorderly fashion, disregarding protest conditions, property damage, and racially-aggravated public order violations.

The detentions occurred against a backdrop of escalating tensions surrounding sea crossings, with demonstrators assembling at ports whenever arrivals were anticipated.
