Sussex Police has introduced an all-terrain vehicle for night-time patrols along Brighton seafront, with officers already using the buggy on the beach.
The ATV is fitted with blue lights, a powerful spotlight and high-powered LED lighting to improve visibility on the shingle during nighttime and the early hours.
Officers can use the vehicle to travel farther onto the beach, respond more quickly and maintain a highly visible police presence.
Chief Inspector Dan Hiles said Brighton seafront attracts millions of visitors each year and the force wants people to feel safe while there.
He described the ATV as an additional operational tool in efforts to reduce offending in the area, alongside existing measures such as drones and live facial recognition technology.
Brighton divisional commander Adam Hays warned anyone considering committing crime on the seafront that police are highly visible and prepared to respond and take action.
A Sussex Police spokesperson confirmed that the vehicle will primarily be used at night and during the early hours to support seafront patrols and help protect the public.
