The construction of a new drive-through Greggs is continuing to cause heavy traffic.

Drivers are facing long delays on the A27 at Falmer due to ongoing works at the Esso Rontec Service Station.

The Greggs construction has led to a lane closure on the eastbound carriageway between the B2123 The Drove and the A277 Brighton Road.

Temporary overnight closures are in effect from 8pm to 6am to allow contractors to install and remove inside lane closure and speed limit signage.

The works, which were scheduled to commence on April 13, 2026, are expected to last approximately one month.

All slip roads and side roads connecting to the A27 in this section are also closed during the overnight works.

Lay-bys adjacent to the carriageway are subject to a 24-hour closure, and a 50mph speed limit is in place along the affected stretch.

National Highways stated the order comes into force on April 11, 2026 and will remain in place until works are completed by May 13, 2026.

The closures have caused recurring congestion on the A27, with drivers experiencing significant queues and delays.
