A motorcyclist who was caught speeding along Brighton seafront has been fined and given penalty points after appearing before magistrates in Crawley.
Curtis Farrell, 23, of Harvey Street, Halstead, Essex, admitted exceeding the speed limit on a restricted road when he appeared at Crawley Magistrates’ Court on March 18.
The court heard that Farrell was riding a Yamaha motorcycle along the A259 Marine Parade in Brighton at 10.23pm on December 22, 2024, when he was recorded by a roadside GATSO speed camera travelling at 44mph in a 30mph zone. The speed limit was clearly indicated by street lighting positioned at regular intervals along the road.
The case had initially been dealt with by a single magistrate in Farrell’s absence, but was brought back before the court after he made a statutory declaration. This is a legal process that allows a defendant to state they were unaware of earlier proceedings.
Following the declaration, the case was reopened and Farrell entered a guilty plea to the speeding offence.
