Man dies in crash involving pedestrian and vehicle on A27

A man has died in a crash on the A27.

Emergency services were called to the scene on the A27 Arundel Road at around 10.40pm yesterday, April 3, following reports of a crash between a pedestrian and a vehicle.

A 20-year-old local man was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, police said.

The westbound carriageway remains closed. National Highways has advised motorists to follow the “hollow triangle” diversion route.

A spokeswoman for Sussex Police said: “Officers are appealing to anyone who saw the pedestrian in the immediate area of the A27 Arundel Road at Hammerpot at around 10:40pm Friday, April 3, witnessed the collision, or have dashcam footage that could assist police enquiries, to come forward and contact police.

“Information can be reported by emailing collision.appeal@sussex.police.uk or by calling 101 quoting Operation Newgate.
