A Sussex beach with “fluffy sand dunes” has been named one of the best in the country to visit.
Travel publisher Condé Nast Traveller has revealed its picks of the 60 best beaches in the UK.
It said: “From Cornwall’s jagged peaks across to Kent’s coolest hideouts, all the way up to the top of Scotland via the likes of Norfolk and Wales’ largest island, these are the best beaches in the UK worth tailoring a sandy escape around.”
A few beaches from Sussex made the list, including one stunning spot.
West Wittering Beach named one of the best in the UK
Making the list by CNT was West Wittering Beach, near Chichester.
The publisher wrote: “White sand, an expansive coastline and fluffy sand dunes with views of the Isle of Wight, West Wittering is renowned for its beauty and is only a two-hour drive from central London to West Sussex or 1 hour 25 minutes by train.
“In the colder months, it’s quiet and mostly consists of locals on walks but in the Summer it can be very popular – but never overcrowded; it’s managed well by the only nearby parking, which has to be booked ahead of arrival.
“The beach is well-maintained and has a very small promenade, if you can really call it that, with a cafe and a handful of food and drink huts, just enough for a calm and restorative beach day.”

It recommends a fish burger, kite flying, and sunset-watching among the great things to do.
The beach is rated highly by its visitors, rated 4/5 on Tripadvisor from more than 1,000 reviews.
A review summary says that West Wittering Beach is “renowned for its natural beauty and clean amenities”.
Lifeguards have also earned praise for their “attentiveness”.
Best beaches to visit in Sussex
West Wittering Beach was not the only beach recognised as being one of the best in the UK.
Other beaches picked out were:
Cuckmere Haven
Seven Sisters
Hastings Beach
Cuckmere Haven was said to be one of the “top picks for the best beaches near London”, with “superb views of the Seven Sisters chalk cliffs”.
CNT adds: “At low tide, the adventurous can explore the foreshore eastwards all the way to the Birling Gap, or head west for sea caves.”
The Seven Sisters regularly get picked out as being among the most picturesque spots in the country, and the beach is no different.
It was described as being “one of the most arresting coastlines in Britain”, with a “story-book, red-and-white-striped Beachy Head Lighthouse”.
It is said to be a great spot for outdoor activities such as bird watching, canoeing, and wild swimming.

The pebbly coastline of Hastings Beach was the last to be picked out, named for its “slightly naff, slightly loud and extremely fun shade of British seaside charm”.
From candyfloss and arcade games, to a classic pier and fish and chip spots, there are plenty that make this spot great for a seaside getaway.
